ATNJ Endorses Bob Menendez for U.S. Senate

New Brunswick, NJ – The Menendez for Senate Campaign today announced that Action Together New Jersey (ATNJ) and its 20 county chapters, the largest on-the-ground grassroots group, has endorsed Bob Menendez for re-election to the U.S. Senate.  This strong endorsement came with a unanimous “yes” vote from the statewide all-volunteer Leadership Committee—comprised of 95% women—to endorse the Democratic Senator.  The group cited Sen. Menendez’s voting record on women’s rights, health care, voter rights, racial injustice and criminal justice reform.

“ATNJ’s passionate, civic-minded volunteers fight each day to make sure there is equality and justice for all under the law, and I am proud to have their support,” said Sen. Menendez.  “The stakes in this election couldn’t be higher.  We have a president who attacks women, immigrants, health care and our environment, and a Republican candidate who will do Donald Trump’s bidding.  I fight for the values we New Jerseyans hold dear: equal rights for women, minorities and the LGBTQ community; a tax policy that grows the middle class instead of padding the pockets of the super-rich; common sense gun safety; protecting our pristine Jersey Shore from off-shore drilling; and for every New Jerseyan to have an equal opportunity to achieve the American Dream.  With ATNJ’s help, we will energize the grassroots across New Jersey and win this race.”

“None of our prior endorsements (for the Congressional races) resulted in 100% agreement, so this solid vote speaks volumes to the confidence that we have in Senator Menendez and our steadfast commitment to get out the vote.  In fact, through our Post it Posse initiative alone, our coalition of volunteers have reached over 292,000 registered voters in the state to get out the vote.  We are on the ground and doing the work to get Senator Menendez re-elected.  A vote for Bob Hugin is a vote for President Trump and the complicit GOP leaders who refuse to provide the necessary checks and balances in our democracy,” said Uyen “Winn” Khuong, Executive Director, ATNJ.

ATNJ’s mission is to provide political and civic education, actions, and events to New Jerseyans while fighting for critical issues like women’s rights, common sense gun laws, racial justice, and the environment.

“We are strongly behind Senator Menendez who has always been championing civil rights and racial justice.  We also know that he holds a key vote in the Senate for lifetime judicial appointments so we will do all we can to defend the senior Senator of New Jersey in his re-election,” said Rachel Green, Civil Rights Director, ATNJ.

Bob Menendez has been New Jersey’s champion for progressive values in the United States Senate.  After writing New Jersey’s first hate crimes law as a state legislator, he has fought his entire career for equal rights and opportunity under the law.  He has stood up for women’s, LGBTQ, voter, worker and civil rights, and co-authored the Affordable Care Act, which gave access to health care to nearly a million New Jerseyans who didn’t have coverage, protected 3.8 million New Jerseyans with pre-existing conditions, and led to the expansion of federally-qualified health centers throughout the state and country.  The Senator has long fought for common sense gun safety laws, to make education more affordable, to increase protections for consumers, safeguard our environment, and uphold women’s reproductive rights.
